What can You Expect from a Hypnosis Session?

You are going for your first hypnosis session or just thinking about it. Do you have questions and are you a bit nervous? After reading this article you will feel better about the hypnosis process and you will have a better idea of what to expect during your hypnosis session. So let’s get started answering your questions.

Is Hypnosis Real?

Hypnosis has been around for thousands of years but there has always been a lot of controversy surrounding it. Even today with the abundance of proof that during a hypnosis session the brains electrical energy is heightened, people still have questions about its validity.

Studies have shown that hypnosis can change the minds response to physical and emotional pain. EEG testing shows that the emotional response to pain is significantly decreased or removed completely. Because of this response hypnosis can be used to treat many emotional disorders including fears, anxiety and phobias. Learn more here.

Hypnosis can also be used to overcome bad habits and addictions. It has also been used for athletic performance enhancement with great success.

Can I be Hypnotized?

Everyone can be hypnotized. As a matter of fact, you probably have several hypnotic states during your day and you don’t even know it. Have you ever been driving your car home from work and really don’t recall the ride home? You would probably say that you were on autopilot. Well you were in a way. You were in a hypnotic state; your unconscious mind drove the car so that you could focus on something else, such as your day at work.

Hypnosis is a state of heightened awareness. You are not sleeping or unconscious. You are not under the control of someone else. You are actually in more control than you are in a normal mental state.

How does Hypnosis Work?

Hypnosis does work. During a hypnotic session, you are open to receiving suggestions that can help you to change your behavior. During these sessions, you will see things more clearly with less emotional attachment making it easier for you to resolve the issue.

The hypnotherapist will guide you into a hypnotic trance using relaxation techniques. It is a very easy and pleasant experience. It is much like guided meditation. As your conscious mind relaxes, your unconscious mind comes to the forefront helping you to uncover hidden or repressed memories. The unconscious mind is also very open to suggestions because it does not experience the same limiting emotions that the conscious mind does which could hold you back from making healthy decisions.

What are the Benefits?

There are numerous benefits to a hypnosis session. First, it is very relaxing and revitalizing. Many people want to continue hypnosis sessions just for this experience. Second, it is a fast and reliable way to rid yourself of unwanted habits, such as smoking and weight loss. Third, it is a proven way to eliminate phobias from your life. Last, it can help with chronic pain and illness decreasing the amount of medication needed to control the symptoms. You can read more about the benefits in this Webmd article.

Is a Hypnosis Session Dangerous?

Hypnosis is not dangerous. You are not being brainwashed. You are in complete control and can make yourself come out of trance at any time.

Hypnosis is not for everyone. It is not used successfully with those who have mental illnesses. The reason for this is because the unconscious is at such a heightened awareness, it is open to suggestion. These suggestions may not be real but led by a well-meaning hypnotherapist. With mental illness, the mind may not be able to tell what is real and what was suggested by the therapist. This has been reported in cases of abuse.
